| HOW TO MAKE YOUR SIMPLE WEATHERCOCK: (See photos below) | ||
STEP |
Put the sand into the bottle. |
STEP |
Tie the two sticks together at right angles 1cm from the ends, with the string. Ask an older person to help you here. |
STEP |
Draw a triangle on the 5cm cardboard. Cut it out. |
STEP |
Glue the triangle pointing away from the tied ends, at the open end of one stick. Like an arrow. |
STEP |
Make a hole in middle of the bottle top, big enough for the stick to turn easily. Put the top back on the bottle. |
STEP |
Put the stick that does not have the triangle on it, through the hole in the bottle top, down into the sand. It should be able to turn easily. |
STEP |
Write the following onto each corner of the square 20cm cardboard: North South East West |
STEP |
Place the square cardboard outside on the ground with the poles (North, South, East and West) in the right directions, away from buildings where you can feel the wind blowing. Put the bottle on the cardboard, in the middle. |
STEP |
Watch the wind turn the stick with the triangle to show which direction the wind is coming from. Read the direction from the square cardboard. Have fun! |
