Single Parents

Millions of children around the world live with one parent. This may be because parents have divorced or separated and in some cases, may have died.

No matter what the reason is, you will probably feel a lot of different emotions, such as being upset, sad or angry at some stage but these will all eventually pass. Emotions all by themselves are neither good nor bad. They're just feelings.

Living with one parent can sometimes be stressful therefore it can help to talk about it. You can talk with your parent, a relative, a counsellor, or another trusted adult like a teacher.

Talking with other children who live with single parents can be a great help, too.

Remember, you are not alone.

Working Single Parents

Single parents are often working parents because someone needs to earn money to buy food, clothing, and pay for a place to live. The fact that your mom, dad or caregiver has a job means that they are earning an income and are therefore in a better position to take care of your needs. Even though you might understand why your parent or caregiver has to work, sometimes it can be hard to accept.

When your parent has too many work related pressures, there usually isn’t a lot of time for fun. Try to help whenever you can so that your family can have some free time to enjoy yourselves. The cool thing is, you are there for each other, make the most of it!
