Using Radio in the Classroom


We are all familiar with our classrooms being filled with text-books, posters, chalkboards, paper, etc. now let’s consider a radio!

Radio in the Classroom? Yes!

A wise lady once said:‘The ear hears what the eye doesn’t see; and the mind creates what the eye could never see!’


Activities: Using radio in the classroom

Note to teachers:

These ideas could be simplified or made more complex to address the grade and developmental level of your learners. As with any activity, inform the learners about the activity they are about to do.

Discuss what behaviour you expect from them during the activity, e.g. no talking, no distracting of other learners, sit as still as possible (if this is at all possible with children).

Ensure that they know what is expected of them during, and after the activity. What is the OUTCOME of the activity? ‘By the end of the activity, the learner will ...’
Check all radio / recording equipment before starting the activity.
